The Real Paper Crisis

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all had plenty of direction the last several months on how to wash our hands. If you need a refresher --

  1. Scrub your hands with soap and warm water

  2. Sing happy birthday to yourself 50 times

  3. Apply more hand sanitizer

  4. Wipe your whole body down with Clorox wipes

  5. Put your hazmat suit on

Do you see a step we left out? Drying your hands. People have been obsessed with overusing paper towels. Oftentimes, I’ve seen people taking up to 5 paper towels to dry their hands.  Sadly, paper makes up the largest portion of municipal solid waste, according to the EPA. In the United States, approximately 13 billion pounds of paper towels are used every year. That’s a lot of trees and wasted resources that we won’t get back in our lifetime. In spite of the toilet paper “shortage”, this is a real paper crisis!

Yes, there are solutions to this issue. Some people use reusable towels, and others prefer hand dryers. However, if paper towels are the only option, R. P. Joe Smith explains how we can efficiently dry our hands with a single paper towel in this Ted Talk.

Hope you all enjoyed this post! Please let me know in the comments if you tried R. P. Joe Smith’s method for drying your hands. Until the next update, let’s keep making a difference!
