Eco and Budget Friendly Date Ideas For Valentines Day

Many people go out to a romantic dinner and see a movie for Valentines Day. If you’re looking to change up your normal date night routine this holiday, here are a few ideas you may want to try out that are eco and budget friendly!

Get Away For The Weekend

A camping trip may be a difficult venture at the moment depending upon where you live, especially since there recently was a snow storm. However, if you live in a warmer climate or are ready to brave the cold, going camping for the weekend (or a day hike) is a great way to celebrate Valentines Day. For example, the weekend after V-Day, we are renting a cabin in the mountains to try snowshoeing for the first time! Going outside is excellent for escaping the business of our daily lives and allows us to relax and recharge. Going into nature eliminates a lot of daily distractions and nudges us to engage with those we love— perfect for Valentines Day!

Go To An Event At A Local Coffee Shop

Many local cafe’s host a variety of events and classes. Events range from coffee tasting, learning how to make latte art, pottery, yoga, and more. Usually these opportunities come at a small cost, so they are budget friendly — ranging $5-$100 per person. Engaging in these activities allows you to have fun with your partner (or friend), learn something new, give back to small businesses, and meet people in the community. What a fun way to spend the holiday!

Visit A Vegan Restaurant

If you’re still into the romantic dinner idea for Valentines Day, try out a vegan friendly restaurant in your area. We’ve established in previous blogs that eating less meat has a positive impact on the environment. If you’re new to the idea, you can find great vegan restaurants on HappyCow.net or Yelp.com. My favorite restaurants in the Denver area that offer vegan food are owned by Edible Beats. You can check out all their restaurants here. Plus, usually these restaurants are small local businesses, so its a great opportunity to support the local community for Valentines Day!

Go to the Nature and Science Museum

Visiting the Nature and Science Museum is a fun way to learn about the Earth with your partner (or friend). Here, you can learn about the evolution of our planet through fossils, recreated animal scenes, and interactive exhibits. These museums help us understand Earth and what we can do to make it a better place. At one museum, I learned about the Giant Sloth that lived during the Pliocene time and was sized around 9 feet tall. I’m still amazed by this animal and would not have learned about it if I didn’t go to the museum. I highly recommend this activity as a date for Valentines day. It provides much more value than a fun activity and usually comes at little cost to visitors.

Stay safe during this Valentines Day season and have fun! Do something that you and your partner (or friends) enjoy doing. Engage and show one another that you care for each other. Try something out that can be good for the planet and don’t break the bank. Until the next update, let’s keep making a difference!
